GCS Code of Business Ethics and Conduct
Garrett Container Systems (GCS or Company) strives to provide its customers with a product that meets all requirements for craftsmanship, timeliness and performance through a friendly and professional approach. Directors, officers and employees are charged with the responsibility of upholding product and service quality as the highest priority. In doing so, we find that the easiest way to do that is to do our jobs well and follow two simple rules:
- Be honest and ethical with our customers, suppliers and fellow employees.
- Maintain a safe workplace and environmentally friendly workplace.
These rules are our foundation and guide us through our transactions with customers, vendors and each other. It would be so easy to stop right there, but a closer look is in order to appreciate how those rules apply in common day-to-day business situations.
- Be honest and ethical with our customers, suppliers and fellow employees.
Dishonest and unethical behavior at work usually comes about when we allow our personal interests to take precedent over the Company’s. For example, accepting gifts from customers or suppliers, using confidential Company information or other corporate assets for personal profit, conducting business for another enterprise during normal working hours or using Company property to conduct business for another enterprise. Many more such examples exist, but the essence of the rule is the same. When your personal interests start taking over your course of conduct at work to the detriment of the Company, its customers, suppliers and other employees, you are violating our code of conduct.
If a conflict of interest or appearance of a conflict of interest develops, the employee must report the matter to the Human Resources Director to determine if a conflict exists and what actions must be taken to remedy the matter.
GCS strives to maintain an atmosphere that allows everyone to do his or her job well. The Company wants its employees to excel. Disruptive and unproductive behavior diminishes excellence and is unacceptable in the workplace. As such, GCS prohibits the following:
- Discrimination and/or harassment that is sexual, racial or religious in nature or that is related to anyone’s gender, national origin, age, sexual orientation or disability.
- Hostile physical contact, intimidation, threats of such actions or violence or any other actions that may be considered threatening or hostile in nature while on Company premises, at a Company sponsored function or on Company business.
- Abusive treatment or use of tangible and intangible Company property.
- Disclosure or misuse of all non-public information pertaining to the Company, including but not limited to, business and financial information, product information, proprietary technical data, competitive position, strategies, customer data and product costs. Such types of information are considered trade secrets or confidential information. Conversely, the Company will observe obligations of confidentiality and non-disclosure of confidential information and trade secrets of others.
- Unauthorized disclosure or misuse of private employee information.
- False or misleading entries in the Company’s books and records.
- Maintain a Safe and Environmentally Friendly Workplace.
GCS wants its employees to be free from injury and health hazards in the workplace. To achieve that goal, GCS prohibits:
Possession, distribution, sale, manufacture or being under the influence of any illegal drug; consuming alcoholic beverages while on Company premises, in Company vehicles, or while on Company business or time, or bringing alcohol onto Company premises; and abusing prescription drugs or possessing prescription drugs that have not been prescribed for the employee by a health care provider.
GCS participates in voluntary government programs to monitor our compliance with local, state and federal health safety rules and regulations and provide regular health and safety training for our employees.
GCS strives to stay current with all changes to existing health and safety rules and regulations through regular monitoring and training. GCS shares promptly any information it may obtain relative to any found hazard; participates in preventive safety and loss prevention and occupational health programs and requires that equipment and operating practices meet all applicable regulatory requirements.
In summary, our Code is a reflection of our desire to do the right thing, abide by the rules and treat all of those with whom we work and do business in a fair and equitable manner.
